Saxofonista y compositor estadounidense. Su estilo incorpora influencias de los elementos más diversos de la música y la cultura: el free jazz, la musica klezmer, el punk rock, la música de dibujos animados, la música de películas y la música clásica contemporánea. Sus "game pieces piezas de juego como Cobra (1984), involucran reglas, entendidas por sus músicos e indicadas por señales manuales, que determinan el flujo de la música, poniendo acento en el proceso más que en el resultado de la interpretación. En su discografía también destacan los álbumes Naked City (1989) y su serie Masada, inaugurada en 1994 con Masada, Vol. 1: Alef y continuada en 2000 con Masada: Live in Sevilla 2000.
